Session 1: All You Need to Know About German Names

Learn the ten most important facts about names in German records! From spelling variations and suffixes to straight lines and “Rufnamen”, this presentation teaches you the German naming practices that will help you find, locate, and understand your ancestor.

Session 2: Tips and Tricks of Deciphering German Hand Writing

Learn the top tips and tricks for deciphering the old German script! With tips on how to easily recognize certain letters, how to tell tricky letters apart, abbreviations, spelling variations, names, and more, you'll be amazed at what you can do after only an hour of learning!

Session 3: 5 Must-Know Google Hacks for Deciphering Your German Documents

Learn Katherine’s favorite Google tricks for deciphering that tricky German handwriting! In this tip-packed session, learn how to tailor your search phrases to pull up the exact results you need, how to add in specific German search words to get even more accurate genealogy results, and how to take advantage of other great hacks to have you deciphering those German records in no time!

Session 4: Locating German Records: Beyond FamilySearch and Ancestry

Learn how to track down your ancestor's German records— in places besides just FamilySearch and Ancestry! For the beginner to advanced genealogist alike, you'll walk away with new tools and methods for discovering records both online and off.

Onsite seating is limited. Register early. This seminar includes our annual Ohio Chapter PalAm business meeting. A German box lunch is available for a fee, or you may bring your lunch. Box lunch includes a Knockwurst sandwich, German potato salad, and sweet red cabbage.

On-site attendees will have a chance to win 4 hours of research from Dr. Wolfgang Grams in Germany. Other raffles also. Let’s renew our friendships and meet other members.

Registration includes 2-week availability to recordings of presentations on the Ohio Chapter of the Palatines to America private YouTube channel. This gives you the availability to watch again, or if you can’t be with us on the 15th, you can watch at your leisure. A Zoom link and handouts will be emailed to all paid registrants a few days prior to the seminar. The link is for the registrant only. It can not be used by others. Seminar questions?
